What's on the menu?

There are a lot of restaurants in the south of Catalonia and we would like to share our experiences. Almost all have an affordable daily menu on weekdays and, for special occasions, other restaurants, usually more expensive and luxurious, offer haute cuisine tasting menus.

All offer fresh local produce and excellent wines from Terra Alta. Regional specialities such as paella, fideuá, black rice and calçots (when in season) are almost obligatory. We recommend you always book and make sure you indicate whether it is indoors or on the terrace. All of them offer a take-away service. And for vegetarians like us (although we eat fish) just ask the waiters, who will offer you alternatives.

TORTOSA

La Brasa de l’Ermita

This is the bar-restaurant of the Ermita de Mig Camí, which can be reached by following the panoramic route along the Coll de l’Alba. It is a quiet restaurant with beautiful views over Tortosa, offering mainly grilled cuisine at average prices. The staff is friendly and helpful. It has a large terrace in the shade of the church or under the impressive century-old trees. Nearby you can take a short 1-hour hike from the Ermita Coll de l’Alba to the Creu del Coll Redó, or you can take a tour of the Wind Park and return to Casa Oriole via the Cami de la Mola Porquera and the Cami del Ranxero.

Botanic

Close to the shopping area of Cervantes street. It has a good variety of à la carte, special and daily menus at prices to suit all budgets. Excellent sushi, local cuisine and desserts, in a well-designed interior and lively atmosphere. Medium-sized terrace with a lot of movement due to the nearby shops.

Tasca Bohemia

Located in the heart of the old town, with a small terrace on the street but ample space inside. Traditionally decorated and run by a friendly couple, Toni and Cinta. The daily set menus are well priced, home cooking and generous portions. Good wine list. Perfect location for strolling through the medieval streets or going up to the 10th century Parador, with spectacular views of the Jardins del Princep.

Located next to the Cathedral, in a former bakery on several floors and a large covered terrace. All the cooking is done on the barbecue with olive wood. Excellent artichokes, meats, hamburgers, even vegetarian, and original homemade desserts. The decoration is well cared for, with temporary exhibitions, and the managers are very friendly. There are usually activities every week: DJ sessions, meetings, small shows…

El Parc

El Parc

It offers a wide variety of avant-garde and traditional dishes, as well as carefully prepared sushi. It is located in the Teodor González Park. The presentation of the dishes is very suggestive, and the raw material is of very good quality. They also have a great wine list and excellent service and attention. The oriental dishes are exceptional and they also offer vegetarian cuisine. It has a large terrace with views of the impressive trees of the modernist park.

ALFARA DE CARLES - MONT CARO

Pous de la Neu

Driving up towards the summit of Mont Caro (1436 m), in the built-up area known as el Mascar, you will find this inn-restaurant, with a large terrace and a warm, traditional interior with a fireplace. The daily menus are based mainly on meat and game and are plentiful and tasty, with specialities such as wild boar or rabbit. The owners are friendly and very helpful, with extensive knowledge of the area. Perfect to recharge your batteries after an excursion.

Villa Retiro

Impressive menus made with seasonal products, with an exquisite presentation and in a unique setting. The wine list is one of the most extensive in Catalonia. Chef Fran López, a disciple of Alain Ducasse, has been awarded a Michelin star, which he has held since 2009. The Tasting Menu is recommended to get a good idea of the wide range of sensations that can be enjoyed. In short, an experience that will be hard to forget.

A simple, cosy restaurant with a large, well-shaded terrace in Els Muntells, a small, quiet village surrounded by rice fields and not far from the beaches of Eucaliptus and Trabucador. It specialises in Delta cuisine, i.e. seafood, fish and rice dishes, with black rice being the most popular. For vegetarians, they have a very interesting paella.

Casa Nicanor

Casa Nicanor

A real institution in Deltebre. The fourth generation of the family with extensive knowledge of the history of the Delta and very friendly staff. Excellent fresh fish and mussels. Large terrace but the interior has much more charm and atmosphere.

Lo Pati d'Agustí

Lo Pati d'Agustí

Specialising in traditional Delta cuisine, especially rice dishes cooked over olive wood, as well as other local products (km0), in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Perfect for savouring the menu of the day while exploring the area by bike. Be sure to book.

Paca

It has excellent daily menus with very fresh fish. The sole is particularly tasty, and all the dishes have generous portions of vegetables and salads to share. It has a large terrace on the street and is within walking distance of the beach and the El Garxal wetland, at the mouth of the Ebro.

L'AMPOLLA

Bar Pepe Xiringuito

Informal beach bar overlooking Cap Roig beach. Built into the rock, it is a very pleasant place to eat raciones and tapas. Excellent seafood, fresh fish and the best fideuá in the area, in our opinion. Vegetarian paella. Two levels of terrace in the shade of the mulberry trees.

La Barraca

Excellent for fresh fish dishes, prawns, lobster or the now famous Balfegó tuna (sustainable red tuna raised in nearby l’Atmella de Mar), exquisite, very well cooked in this great setting, next to the beach. It can get very busy (reservations are advisable) and if you want tuna, it is advisable to order in advance. It is not far from the Bassa de les Olles.

Close to the promenade and the fish market, it is a small and pleasant family restaurant, specialising in good quality traditional home cooking. Small terrace on the street. Excellent fideuá and daily menus. Perfect after exploring the Senia river and coastal paths. Be sure to book.

L'Antic Molí

Excellent signature cuisine in an exceptional setting, offering elaborate tasting menus to awaken all the senses in the “Espacio Gastronómico”, and more affordable menus in the “Espacio Bistró”. Excellent wine list and desserts to die for in this Michelin-starred restaurant. Not far from the picturesque excursions around Roca Xapada, near Mas de Barberans.

Located in a beautiful modernist brick building designed by César Martinell, a disciple of Gaudí, you can enjoy the food and wines of Terra Alta at affordable prices. The tasting menu is a delightful treat that is guided by the products of the Terres de l’Ebre region.

For electricity we use a photovoltaic system, designed for the average consumption of 2 people, so we cannot allow the use of high power appliances such as hairdryers (we can provide you with a low consumption one), irons, etc. and we ask you to use them responsibly.

The water at Casa Oriole comes from the rain and is stored in a cistern, so it is not advisable to drink it directly (we will give you a bottle of drinking water on arrival), but for making coffee or boiling water there is no problem. And, as it doesn’t rain much in this area, we ask you to use this precious resource responsibly.
